Soupah! (2022), Cup of tea? (2023), Fruit me! (2024) — Jacques Franck cultural centre — Sint-Gillis, BE
A larger and more sustainable project is the three-year triptych Soupah!, Cup of tea?, Fruit me!, developed in collaboration with the municipality of Sint-Gillis, the Park Poétik arts festival, and the social housing corporation Foyer du Sud. For six weeks, Renée and Erien visited the social housing block Square Charles Jordens in Sint-Gillis on a weekly basis. In Soupah! they worked on soup recipes; in Cup of tea? on coffee and tea rituals; and in Fruit me! they focused on summer smoothies and fruit.
Renée and Erien approached residents and asked questions about their favourite soup, tea or fruit. They photographed the residents and invited them to observe, experience, and photograph themselves. They conducted interviews, drew pictures with children at play, and wrote recipes on paper. The questions sparked both joyful and difficult conversations that revealed the realities of everyday life in this neighborhood.
Each section concluded with a small exhibition and a photo magazine—an accessible, illustrated recipe book featuring collected photographs, anecdotes, and drawings. The magazines were distributed through residents and neighboring cultural partners. From May to September 2026, a retrospective exhibition will be presented at them at Jacques Franck cultural centre.
